Press Release

May 6, 2009

GOSHEN, Ind. - The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has released this year's rankings of the Best Places to Work in Indiana.

Goshen Health System was ranked number 10 among Indiana's top large-sized companies recognized for setting the standard for their ability to create a workplace culture where employees feel valued. Goshen Health System has ranked in all four years of the Best Places to work program and is the only hospital in the region recognized this year.

The annual Best Places program honors the top companies in the state, determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys. Winners are selected from two categories: small to medium-sized companies of between 25 and 249 employees, and large-sized companies consisting of 250 or more employees.

The Chamber released the 2009 Best Places list in March, with rankings of the Indiana companies announced at a dinner May 5 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. In all, 70 Hoosier companies were designated as "Best Places to Work."

At the heart of Goshen Health System's culture and positive work environment is The Uncommon Leader program. Through this participative management program, Colleagues have the power to improve the processes they do each day. All Colleagues are empowered to submit ideas, including cost savings ideas that improve efficiency and patient care on a daily basis.

In 2008 alone, Colleagues submitted nearly $3 million in cost savings ideas. In over a decade, those savings are in the area of $20 million. Colleagues who generate ideas that produce tangible income and cost savings are eligible for gain sharing and receive a cash award for their initiative.

The health system and its 1400 colleagues have embraced this culture, recognizing that great ideas can, and do, come from everywhere.

Earlier this year, Goshen Health System was ranked as the top healthcare organization in the nation for "Overall Job Satisfaction," according to HR Solutions International, Inc., the only consulting firm of its kind endorsed by the American Hospital Association.

The Best Places to Work program is managed by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and presented in partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. For more information, visit www.bestplacestoworkIN.com.
